Which band for an Apple Watch 46, 45 or 44 mm?

The 46 mm case of the Series 12, 11 and 10 uses the same fitting as the 45 and 44 mm of earlier generations. A band from this collection therefore fits the whole family — Apple Watch SE included, in 44 mm. Nothing to check before ordering.

Two lengths, chosen by wrist

Unlike the small cases, the 45/46 mm collection comes in two lengths. The women's length, 105 × 65 mm, fits wrists from 14 to 18 cm; the men's length, 115 × 75 mm, wrists from 17 to 21 cm.

Why an edge-folded construction?

The leather is first skived, then its edges are pared very finely before being folded by hand — the method known as rembordé. The result is thin, rounded edges, and the band does without stitching.

We keep this construction on the large cases: it gives a band that is supple from the first day, with the line of a city watch. A cut-and-dyed edge, stitched, is sturdier and stays reserved for Apple Watch Ultra 49 mm bands.

Leathers that age differently

Leather does not only change how a band looks when new: it decides its suppleness, its feel and the way it will age.

Full-grain calfskin, smooth or soft-grained, takes on a patina that becomes its own. Alpine goat, naturally grained, keeps a fine, even pattern. South African ostrich is recognisable by its quill follicles and stays remarkably supple.

Python, finished in Italy, reveals its scale relief with wear. Lizard, finished in France, offers a smaller, highly graphic scale. American alligator, tanned and finished in France, comes matte or glazed — two characters in one leather.
